Celebrating Cambodian Culture: The Founding of CSS at CSULB

The Cambodian Student Society (CSS) at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) was established in 1959 by a group of Cambodian exchange students. Its mission is to share, promote, and preserve Cambodian culture within the CSULB student body. CSS provides students with opportunities to associate and interact with other Khmer students both on campus and in the greater Long Beach community.

Over the years, CSS has organized various cultural events to continue Cambodia’s cultural traditions and strengthen friendships within the communities of Long Beach, which is home to one of the most diverse populations in the US. The Society welcomes members from different ethnic groups, including Vietnamese and Filipinos, reflecting the diversity in the community. Many of its members were born in the US, while others come from Cambodia and beyond.

Through its activities, CSS aims to promote academic goals and achievements among fellow Cambodians, providing students with opportunities for association and interaction with the faculty and administration of CSULB and members of the community.
