Cambodian Association of America, Oldest Cambodian Mutual Aid Organization in US

Empowering communities since 1975, the CAA bridges cultures and uplifts vulnerable families

The Cambodian Association of America (CAA), founded in 1975, is the oldest and largest Cambodian nonprofit organization in the U.S. Based in Long Beach, it played a key role in establishing “Cambodia Town” and supporting Cambodian refugees in adapting to American life while preserving their culture. Starting out in a garage with minimal resources, CAA provided critical services like refugee sponsorships, housing assistance, employment readiness, and education support. It also helped create 13 Cambodian chapter associations across the country in the 1980s.

Today, CAA serves over 4,500 families annually, offering a wide range of programs, including mental health services, senior support, domestic violence assistance, citizenship help, and technology literacy programs. Its mission now extends beyond the Cambodian community, supporting diverse groups like Hispanics, Vietnamese, and African Americans. CAA remains a cornerstone of the community, working to improve equity and reduce disparities in health, income, and social services for vulnerable populations.
