Cambodia Town: A thriving cultural and business hub showcasing Cambodian heritage in Long Beach

Cambodia Town in Long Beach, California, is a vibrant hub for Cambodian culture and commerce. Its roots trace back to the late 1970s and early 1980s when Cambodian refugees, fleeing the Khmer Rouge regime, settled in the area to rebuild their lives.

The community’s growth led to the official designation of the Cambodia Town Business and Cultural District on July 3, 2007, making it the first recognized Cambodia Town in the United States.

Stretching along Anaheim Street between Atlantic and Junipero avenues, Cambodia Town boasts a variety of Cambodian-owned businesses, including restaurants, jewelry stores, and markets, as well as cultural and religious centers like Khmer temples.

The area serves as a focal point for cultural preservation and community events, such as the annual Cambodia Town Cultural Festival, which celebrates Cambodian heritage and fosters unity among residents.

Over the years, Cambodia Town has become a symbol of resilience and cultural pride, contributing significantly to the multicultural tapestry of Long Beach. Its development reflects the determination of Cambodian Americans to maintain their traditions while integrating into American society.
